In just 2 days you'll carve a unique Awhitu memento
Summary: With Howard's guidance you can design and create your very own sculpture. In a fun and relaxed atmosphere Howard introduces you to a variety of carving mediums. He explains and demonstrates sculpture techniques with the various tools he uses. You then choose your own medium depending on difficulty and expectations.
Self-taught artist Howard Hirst has been following his dream of working in solid materials since moving to his picturesque and peaceful beach property 5 years ago with his wife Helen and son Issac. Using hand tools only Howard creates unique and beautiful carvings from a variety of substances, including sandstone and ponga treefern stumps. Howard's speciality is garden art and he has exhibited at various sculptural events including New Zealand's largest gardening exposition - the Ellerslie Flower Show.
