A true country market at Matakawau 4th Sunday every month and long weekends. You can enjoy Awhitu s Country Market for free. Parking costs nothing. Kids are entertained free too. But bring cash to answer the temptations of fresh local produce fascinating local art local handcrafts fantastic woodwork and more.
Cheese Making - 17 July – Jill Butler
This course will be a general overview of cheese making that will cover the equipment needed, the processes and cleanliness necessary for making cheese. In a lecture style course we will be making a cow's milk feta cheese and a ricotta cheese. The tutor will provide all materials include printed instructions for making cheese at home. Students will sample the home made cheeses during this course .

Manukau Heads Lighthouse
One of Awhitu's key attractions is the restored Manukau Heads Lighthouse. The Lighthouse overlooks the Manukau Harbour Bar and entrance and has sweeping views towards Auckland.

Awhitu Creative Talent
Awhitu is known for it's creative talent . In its recent past Awhitu with it's aesthetic environment reasonable land prices and has attracted more than it's fair share of creative talent establishing a a strong creative community. Artworks may be found at the Pollok Coop and the Awhitu Country markets as well as various resident Art galleries which can be viewed by appointment. Check out the creative talent section

Awhitu Farm Gate Sales
The Awhitu Peninsula is a large tract of rural land located near Auckland City. Apart from a few coastal settlements most of this land is rural. To service this area there is only only one general store and garage. However on the way up the peninsula there are lots of places offering farm gate sales.
Organic produce , herbs, free range eggs, blueberries, honey and wine are some of the gate-sale produce you will find on your visit here. Also nurseries and the odd craft store.
